Happy New Year!
Hi,
I wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year! What do you do on New Year's Eve? Leave a comment and let me know.
We will be getting together with friends - we have spent about the last fifteen New Year's Eves with them. We met them at our previous church, and they are wonderful people. We have a glass a sparkling grape juice at midnight, watch the ball drop and then say goodbye. A nice tradition.
I hope this is a great year for you, and that you will move closer to the lifestyle you want to live.
I wanted to let you know that I have been working on some additions to my Home Business Resource Guide, and will be releasing them very soon. I have created a step by step guide to take you through choosing a home based business.
Be on the lookout for it! I'll let you know when it's been released.
Happy 2008!

Is a Home Business on your list for the New Year?
Hi,
Well, as we near Christmas and then the end of another year, many people make "resolutions" of what they would like to change next year.
I've never been too big on resolutions myself, but I think a new year can bring renewed hope for things to be different - better.
I was wondering if starting a home business is on your list for changes in the new year. I think many people can get caught up in the fear of the unknown, and of doing something different. But if you are one of those people, you need to consider that your situation will not change unless you do something to change it. Take your desires to God, and be open to take that step of faith as He leads.
I wanted to mention that I am writing an addition to my Home Business Resource Guide that will outline the steps to take to choose a home business that's right for you. It will be released in the New Year.
Have a great day!

Two good reasons to hire your kids to help in your business
Hi,
I was just reading about a real interesting idea. It's hiring your kids to help work in your business.
It can be a great tax savings strategy, and, at the same time, be a wonderful way to teach your kids about running a business and making money.Did you know that wages paid to your children (between the ages 7 and 17) are a valid business deduction, as long as they do bona fide work, and they are compensated fairly?
Your children can earn up to the standard deduction amount before they will owe any income tax. Because you are getting a business deduction for the wages paid to your child, this is income that you also will not pay taxes on.
In addition, if your children are under age 18, you don't have to pay payroll taxes on them. This is a huge tax savings since you would have to pay these taxes on any other employee you hired.
Hiring your children does not raise a red flag with the IRS, but you should document your children's salary and services provided to audit-proof your tax return. To do this, keep a time sheet showing the date, hours and services provided by your children, and write them a check for their wages.
In addition, you will need to prepare and file a W-2 for your child at the end of the year. Your child may need to file a tax return as well.
You can learn more about hiring your children in your business by reading IRS Publication 15, Chapter 3, Family Employees.
Kristine McKinley, CPA, has put together a report that outlines this whole idea. For only $10, you can get very valuable information that could save you a lot on your taxes.

What are your Christmas traditions?
Hi,
How was your weekend? Ready for another week? If you're counting down, only two weeks until Christmas. What are some of your favorite traditions? We love to ride around at night and look at the outside Christmas lights that people have put up. They're so pretty! When our kids were small, we always did a play of the real Christmas story, based on Luke 2. There are all kinds of activites people do to prepare for the special day.
I want to tell you about a product that's out now, by Kerry Beck, that you can use with your family to create some special times during the Christmas season.
Back in 2002 Kerry started working on a Bible study for her children to better understand the Star of Bethlehem. In 2004 she completed The Star of Bethlehem Family Study Guide.
After she finished the Star of Bethlehem Study, she started learning more about Advent and Christmas traditions along with their Christian origin.
She really wanted to put Christ back into Christmas and started writing down her ideas
It took a very long time, but she now has a full blown package-
Christmas & Advent Celebrations for the Holidays Package-
including two family guides, one gift guide, two meal preparation
books, and five holiday recipe books. I can't believe all the helps Kerry has included in her Christmas package.
The package includes so many ideas to add meaning to your
celebration and anticipation of Christmas.
In short, this is a complete unloading of what Kerry knows about adding meaning to Christmas & Advent celebrations. And you don't have to do all the research because Kerry has made this available to you.
You can read all about it at:

How do you feel when you tell someone you run a home business?
Hi,
I was just reading a post on technorati.com from a man who owns a small business. He was addressing the issue of som people minding being called a small business.
Personally, I have never minded that I do a home business. How many employees do I have? Just me for now. It may get to the point someday that I will hire someone to help me, but right now, I am the employer and employee. I love it. I love the flexibility and freedom it brings. I love doing something that I believe in.
Maybe it's from my years of staying home with my kids when they were young, then homeschooling them as they got a little older. I"ve always been "different" than the rest of my family and most of the world. I guess you get used to it.
But I certainly do not apologize or feel bad about having a small home business. Instead, I realize I am blessed to be able to do what I do.
What about you? How do you feel about having a small home business? Leave me a comment and let me know.
If you don't have a business yet, but would like to, I offer consulting to help you choose a home business that's right for you and help getting started. Visit
http://www.christianhomebusinessconnection.com/home-based-business-advice.html for details.
Have a great week! I think we're going to be a little "snowbound" this week.
