Starting a Home Business

I started my journey “at home” about twelve years ago as we made the decision to homeschool our two children.  A few years ago, when our youngest graduated, I began to seek God about what to do next.  I had thought about starting a home business for a while before that point.  He brought me to a wonderful Christian home based business that I had the opportunity to do for a year, and then decided to move on to creating this site. 

Starting a home business gives you such flexibility. It is great for moms and dads who want to stay home with their children, and need some additional income.  It helps those who have retired, and would like something meaningful to do while earning a little extra money.   A home-based business gives practical experience to  kids who are homeschooled, giving them a great start in knowing how to run a business.    It’s a wonderful alternative for anyone who just wants to have their own business and spend more time at home!

As you look into starting a home business and try to determine which one is right for you, be sure to research any opportunity thoroughly. If you are joining a direct sales type company or other existing opportunity, ask questions like:

• What is the company’s purpose/mission? 

• How long have they been in business? 

• How are they doing financially? 

• Make sure you understand the compensation plan (exactly how you can earn income). 

• Find out what your responsibilities will be, and if this fits into the amount of time you have available to dedicate to your business. 

• What is the initial investment, and are there any other fees after that? 

• Are you given a website, or will you have to provide that yourself?

Talk to people who have done the business for a while and learn from their experiences.  Finding out this information will give you a good basis to work from in deciding which business is best for you.  Above all else, pray and seek God’s wisdom in what He wants you to do.  Starting a home business can be a great adventure - you just want to make sure you are going to be involved in one that is right for you and that is legitimate.
