Baby Boomer, How is Your Confidence?

You may be wondering if you can really run a business.  As a baby boomer, you have probably spent the majority of your life working for someone else or at home with your kids.  Do you wonder if you have what it takes to run a business?

Lack of confidence can stop you in your tracks.  Don’t let it!  I’ll share with you that I never ran a business before I started mine four years ago.  I always had the “entrepreneurial bug” but never did anything about it.  I worked for employers before my kids were born, then stayed home with them and homeschooled them.  So, I didn’t have any experience at running a business.

As I mentioned, I did have a desire to have my own business.  I think that is essential.  Choose something you will really enjoy and feel good about doing.  This keeps you going as you will need to be persistent.  Things won’t always go as smoothly or as well as you would like.

You also need to be able to motivate yourself because you are the boss!  Up until now, you may be used to someone giving you your work to do, and checking on you.  Well, no more.  You will need to plan your daily activities and carry them out without anyone looking over your shoulder.

Don’t let lack of experience hinder you.  Remember, your business will be starting out small, which will give you time to adjust and learn.  As it grows, you should grow with it by continuing to learn new things.  You can also hire some help or outsource some of your work if it grows to the size where it is needed.

As a baby boomer, you have a lot of life experience.  This can translate into help for running your own business.  If you have managed your family and your house, you can take it a step further and run your own business.

Is it for everyone?  Absolutely not.  But if you possess the desire, can motivate yourself, and are persistent, you can make this work.  You will never know until you try!
