Hi! I just found your blog via Problogger and your most recent post couldn’t be more timely! I currently sell greeting cards to friends and family (totally homemade) but I am looking for better ways to streamline and outsource my card creation. It takes me a lot of time to make one card (I use my nature photography), so I’ve been looking for companies that will print and package for me. The problem is price. Right now I have been selling each card for $2, but I would have to raise my prices if I want to outsource printing (currently I’m looking at companies like Shutterfly, Mpix, Winkflash, Imagekind, etc.). My future plan (after I find a suitable company) is to sell my cards through my personal home website (which doesn’t exist yet). Right now I only sell my cards through word of mouth. Sorry this is so long-winded. Any advice? Thanks for the links you provided…I will surely check them out.
Hi Sarah,
Nice to hear from you. Sounds like you have a good potential business. Greeting cards are a BIG business.
I would suggest you take a look at http://www.greetingcardwriting.com – it’s Sandra Miller-Louden’s site. Do you know of her? She has been in the greeting card business for at least 15 years. She has written information to help you get started in this industry.
I would recommend doing a google search on her name, and take a look at the information that’s out there. You can try contacting her and ask her if you have specific questions.
I know she did some of the writing in the guide I recommended:
