Let’s Play the Alphabet Game of Home Businesses
Aug 27th, 2008 by Laurie Neumann
I thought it would be fun to do a spin-off on a popular game - the alphabet game. But we’ll relate it to home businesses. I may need some help when we get to “Q!”
A - Sell Antiques
Locating antiques and reselling them can be a fun and profitable home based business. You have to really know your antiques to be able to spot them. This can be a fun business, especially for a retired couple, who enjoy looking around for items. You can even include some travel to locate antique items.
Many people like to add a few antiques to their home even if they can’t furnish their entire house with them.
You will need to acquaint yourself with what the items are selling for so that you can be competitive. You can check places like Ebay to see what they sell for, although you may be able to get a higher price than what people on Ebay sell for.
You can sell you antiques online on your own website. If your qualilty is good and you are knowledgeable about the items you sell, you will get repeat customers. You can stay in touch with your customers via an online newsletter and let them know when you have new items to sell.
You can also sell items from your home (you would need to check your city/state’s requirements for this).
Being educated on the items and their history is a must as well as what is a fair price to charge.
It would be good to specialize in a certain area of antiques. That way, you can become the “expert” in that area and really get to know the items and the history well. So, for example, you could specialize in selling antique watches or antique lamps or clocks. You would become known as the “go to” person in that particular niche.
Next time, we’ll look at a “B” home based business.
‘Til then,
Laurie
