I have had the pleasure of knowing Marlo for a few years now. She has coached me and we both were in the same class when I did my Biblical Coaching certification. Marlo is an encourager and a wonderful woman of God.
1. Can you tell us what business you are in?
I am a consultant with Norwex Enviro Products.
2. How long have you been doing your business?
I began my direct selling business with Norwex Enviro products in May 2008.
3. How many hours a week do you usually work?
I work my Norwex business (both my personal business as well as coaching and training a growing team) Monday to Friday between the hours of 9 am and 3:30 pm Monday to Friday, typically. I also do approximately 4-5 home shows each month on select evenings. So in total I work about 36 hours per week.
4. Tell us what an average work day is like for you.
I have a set schedule that I follow each day. I carve out 90 minutes each morning for learning new skills and techniques to apply to my business and for my team. While the kids have quiet time in the early afternoon I schedule in a daily power hour to build my personal business where I concentrate on customer care, booking leads, recruit leads, and hostess coaching. For four hours each week I have a power hour for team coaching and training. I spend an hour each day on each of four groups – new consultants, business builders, future leaders and newly promoted leaders. During my day I also make time for product development – ebooks, conference call material, and audio mp3 training for my consultants to use in my online private consultant training area. I also dedicate time each week to creating content for my website for search engine optimization – mainly articles and podcasts.
5. How long did it take your business to become profitable?
Approximately 3 weeks time.
6. What is the best piece of advice or tip you could give someone who wants to get started in the same type of business you’re in?
Stay focused, set challenging goals for yourself, take calculated risks, put systems in place to duplicate yourself, train up other leaders with a spirit of excellence, be consistent and disciplined, step outside the box, and finally, perform UP to the level you are aspiring to. If you want to make manager, ACT like a manager now, even if you are just starting out. If you want to be a senior executive sales manager in one year – perform to that standard of excellence NOW.
7. Anything additional you’d like to share?
Delegate. Delegate. Delegate. Identify your top 20% of your skills and work at mastering them. Surround yourself with others who can fill in the gaps where your skills fall short. Don’t be afraid to outsource. Take the time you gain back by outsourcing an activity and focus on more green-producing activities. For example, I have a bookkeeper/accountant and a house cleaner that comes in twice per week. I pay my oldest son to deliver flyers, place stickers on catalogues and order forms, and put orders together so I can focus on other things. Identify aspects of your business or home life that you can outsource and just do it!

Laurie,
Thanks for sharing!
This is a great interview with Marlo. I was wondering what she was up to these days. Now I know
Hi Bev,
I was wondering the same thing. I was so happy to hear she was still around online.
Laurie

This is a great interview, not surprising though since I know both you and Marlo
I especially connected to the part about outsourcing. Direct sales has several components to it whereby enlisting help is a VERY good idea.
Awesome Ladies
Be blessed~
Thanks for stopping by, Regina.
Blessings to you,
Laurie
