So, there I was, with my own online bookstore. I loved offering products that would help strengthen people’s walk with God or even come to God. I loved that part of the business.
The part I wasn’t too keen on was having to recruit others. I called people up who had requested more information about the opportunity and explained it to them. My mentor (the person I came into the company under) gave me a script to use, and, at first, I”m sure it sounded like I was reading it (which I was.) AFter a while, it became a little more natural. I found these people through advertising and through a co-op ad group that the company offered. So, at least it wasn’t like cold calling. These people actually wanted to know more about this.
I can remember the first person I brought in – it was on Memorial Day. I talked to my mentor, who was doing a “happy dance” for me! I don’t really remember how many people I brought in all together – around 20+, I think.
To sell the products, I did some search engine optimization on the site I had that connected to the bookstore site I got from the company. I had to do this, because search engines don’t really rank sites that are all the same, which all the bookstores were.
I also called some churches in my area, told them what I was doing, and asked if they’d give my store a try. I got one pastor who was very faithful ordering from me.
All in all, things were going well. I was making a profit and enjoying most of what I did. My husband and I saw some flaws in the company’s mission statement and the way they did things, so we called and talked with the CEO of the company. He was very nice and listened to what we had to say. Unfortunately, when changes were made, the company went in a direction further from what we were suggesting.
After I had been with them for about a year, they had to close down operations for a while. They were out of money. Although not surprised this happened, I felt so sad. My business had become a part of me, and I felt like I was going to have to start over.
But, God works all things together for good, doesn’t He? That is when I started my current business.

What is your current business?
