Today, let’s look at how to start a gift basket home based business. Do you like to decorate or make things look nice? If so, you may be a natural at starting a gift basket business.
To make the baskets yourself, you will want to find some nice items for your baskets that you can purchase at a wholesale price, either online or locally. You don’t want to spend too much on each item, or you will need to price your baskets too high to be competitive. Then, you will have to find customers. Where to look?
- Hospital gift shops
- Churches – they may be happy to purchase get well, sympathy or baby gift baskets from you for members of their congregation.
- School/Church fundraisers
- Put an ad in your local newspaper
- Set up a website and sell online
I, personally, love making gift baskets. My daughter does a beautiful job at it, and I am her “buyer.” I love finding the bargains and am always on the lookout for items on sale that would look nice in a basket.
If you don’t feel creative, you can still sell gift baskets by using dropshippers or wholesalers. That way, the company or individual would make up the baskets and you would be responsible for finding customers. Just do a search on Google for gift baskets + dropshippers. Normally, if you are working in a dropshipping arrangement, you would take the order, give it to the company, and they would ship the basket out to your customer. If it’s a wholesale arrangement, you usually have to buy the baskets and then resell them, so you would be responsible for the shipping or delivery. You usually can get a bigger discount on wholesale items, thereby making your profit margin larger when you go to resell the baskets.
