Let’s talk today about starting an interior design business. Do you have a flair for decorating? Have you been blessed with a good eye for making things more attractive? An Interior Design Business could be a good use of your gifts and talents.
A home should say something about the owners. You spend a lot of time in your home and want it to be attractive yet comfortable. Sometimes, it’s hard to achieve that “right look.” Many people hire Interior Designers to help them make their home the place they want it to be.
There are different niches within the Interior Design industry.
- Interior Decorating – this is the general term for any decorating/redecorating done to a home.
- Use What You Have – an interior design style built around using the things you have in a different way to achieve the look you want.
- Home Staging – getting a home ready for sale. This, too, mainly uses what the owner already has to make the home more marketable.
There are many home study courses you can find in Interior Design if you do a search on Google. Or your community college may offer some courses or a certificate program in Interior Design.
As with Home Staging and some of the other businesses we have talked about, some of the planning of this business and appointment making, getting clients, etc. would be done from home. A good portion of the business would need to be done outside the home.
We’ll talk on Wednesday with a “J” business!
