The Proverbs 31 Woman Was a Giver
Jul 12th, 2010 by Laurie Neumann
We’re going to wind up our study on Proverbs and specifically, the Proverbs 31 woman. Today, I’d like to look at a very important aspect of why we run a business and make money.
“She extends her hand to the poor, yes she reaches out her hands to the needy.”
This verse, along with many others in Proverbs, encourage us to give to those in need. When running our businesses and earning income, giving should be a priority.
There are so many places to give – our local church, individuals in our church who are in need, people in other lands who are in need of the gospel, as well as the basics to sustain their lives.
As I was walking this morning, I was thinking about this topic. There have been several times when I couldn’t understand why God let us “lose” money. It may have been a situation that could have been avoided, and I felt our money was spent unnecessarily. I have even asked God, “why?”
But as I was thinking about this, I came to the conclusion that God isn’t all that concerned about the money itself. Money can be a great tool to test our hearts and teach us lessons that we need to learn. The actual money itself? Not a big deal to God.
As you look over your earnings at the end of the month, I hope you will set aside an amount to give and to bless others with. God will be well pleased!
Are there any topics you would like to discuss that relate to Christianity and your business? I would love to have you leave a comment and let me know.
This discussion is on a Christian writers list I belong to. They asked if it was right to pray for sales or monetary benefit in our businesses. I believe it is if your heart is in the right place. Why be in business if you aren’t going to make money, but at the same time I believe we should give our talents away at times to bless others. I sometimes give my communication studies to folks who can’t afford them but express a desire for a need fulfilled. My dh and I give to church and charities, even when we didn’t have much or anything to give. I believe that when your heart is right with God, He directs you and your rewards are sometimes monetary but are sometimes evident in other ways.
