The Proverbs Challenge

Moving right along in Proverbs, today I would like to look at Proverbs 18:2 “A fool has no delight in understanding, but in expressing his own heart.”

As I think of this verse in relation to how we run our home businesses, I was thinking of how we need to listen to people in our niche market.  We can start a business and have our own agenda of what we “think” others want and need, but we really need to listen to them to find out what that is.

Today’s verse reminds us not to be so quick in expressing our own thoughts and opinions, but to take time to understand those we are dealing with.  When we really begin to understand our market, then we will be on our own to giving them what they want and seeing our business grow.

How do we listen?  By inviting them to respond to our emails, conducting surveys, tracking the actions of our subscribers and just “observing” them, we can get a much better idea of what they are looking for.   It will really help your business.

    Good Morning Laurie and Dan,
Thank you for such a sweet awareness in business. I recall when I was in my teens working out in the public for A & W Root Beer Stand as a car hop, Dairy Queen, and cleaning houses working with my Mother to help our family and buy my school clothes. I have always known when I heard people compliment me on my work, my attitudes and my joyful heart in appreciation for my ability to work, kept the incentive going to always do a good job for whomever I was serving.
God expects us to do just that. Be honorable, trustworthy giving a good days work for a days pay. God institutes good guidelines for us to live, work, and grow and serve others. Thanks for this wonderful word this morning.
    Happy Memorial Day.
We bless your work here for us all.
    Lovingly,
    Joyce Day Guy

    Hi Joyce,

Nice to hear from you! Thanks for your comment. I agree that God has given us so many guidelines for how to live and run our businesses or do our work. It is our responsibility to find out what we should be doing and do it to the best of our ability.

So true. Market research REALLY does have value. If one is attempting to “create” the need vs. meeting an existing need with said product or service – be prepared to spend (significant) precious capital marketing…KNOW YOUR DEMOGRAPHICS AND TARGET CUSTOMERS.
