Work at Home Proofreading
Aug 4th, 2008 by Laurie Neumann
Hi,
I hope you had a nice weekend. Time to get back to work!
I wanted to talk today about the option of doing some work at home proofreading. I am the type of person who, while reading a story, article, etc. has a hard time concentrating on it if there are grammatical/spelling errors in it. I just want to get out my red pen and start circling! I can’t help it - it’s just a natural inclination. Imagine my poor kids during their homeschooling years!
If you can relate to this, and have an eye for detail, you may do well at a proofreading business. There are SO many people today writing articles, reports, ebooks, etc. And a lot of them need help proofreading their copy. This could be a natural fit for you if you are so inclined.
I know, myself, after I have spent time writing an ebook or some longer piece of writing, that to go back and proofread it becomes a chore. First of all, I am too familiar with the copy to pick up errors. Secondly, I’m tired of reading it because I just spent a great deal of time writing it. What should I do? Hire a proofreader. It would be much more productive than me trying to wade through it again.
There is a great guide that will give you the ins and outs of this business. It will tell you all about starting up a proofreading business from the skills needed to what you can earn to how to find clients. Read about it at the link below.
Take care,
Laurie
Hi,
I am from Chennai, India and I work as a legal transcriptionist for an US based company called Merrillcorp and would love have some extra income from a home-based job in order to support my three kids and an aging mother. Kindly provide me some links from where I can start this business from day one since I ain’t got any money to invest immediately. Thanks .

Hi there,
Thanks for your comment. As far as providing links to start this business, this is something you would need to do. You would have to find clients that were in need of your services, and build your business that way. Once you get a few happy clients, hopefully they will refer you to others. Word of mouth is a great thing!
The link to the proofreading guide I provided in the above post is a guide that will help you start a business by giving you information that you need to know. It should make the start up easier, but you still need to find your own clients.
Today, there are many business owners on the internet who look for others to proofread their information for them. I would visit home business type forums, build relationships with people, and eventually offer your services (within the promotion guidelines of the forum.)
I hope this helps and I wish you much success!
Laurie
