Christian Business Ethics Simplified
Do You Struggle with Knowing How to Run Your Business in a Way That Honors God?
Find out What God's Word says about How to Run Your Business
Christian Business Ethics are SO IMPORTANT to running your business in a way that honors and pleases God. But sometimes they can be dry and it can be hard to know how to practically incorporate them into your business.
As a Christian business owner, I know it is important to you to honor God with your business. After all, He is the one who has made it possible for you to own your business, right? But do you struggle with knowing exactly how to do that? Don't you want to be assured that you are doing all you can when it comes to honoring Him?
I know you do! As a fellow Christian business owner, I know I would not have a business at all if it weren't for God. He has blessed me with this gift and now I want to give back to Him what I can.
Over the past year, I have thought on and off about whether my business is something that God is pleased with. I felt that I was always ethical in my dealings, but I didn't feel that I was including God enough in the day to day operations. I would ask His blessing on my business (most days) but I didn't really take time to bring Him specific needs or to evaluate if I was spending my time or conducting my business in the way He wanted me to.
What did I do when I needed advice? Did I turn to God in prayer, or was my first inclination to go ask for help at a forum? Now, I do believe God works through others, but where do I head to first? At times, when I go to God in prayer, He will lead me to someone who can help. But I want His choice, not mine.
Now the biggie. How did I feel about charging for my work? Insecurity, guilt and confusion all come to mind. As a Christian, I was torn between giving things away and earning an income. What was the right thing to do? But as I began to study what God has to say about our work in His Word, I became freed up in that area, as well as others.
I would hear, from time to time, someone say how important it is to make God your CEO. I always believed that, but was I doing that? I decided to get serious about it and that led me to produce a product that I believe was inspired by God and will bless you and your business. I have taken the struggles I have had, searched Scripture about them, and put the insight I have received into one easy-to-read eBook. More on that below.
Give Your Business to God!
How can we give our business to God? We can offer up our day to Him by starting out in prayer. It is so important to include God in every aspect of our business, and asking Him to guide our decisions as well as lifting up specific requests and needs is crucial. Also, thank Him for this opportunity He has given you.
We can offer our attitude and the way we conduct our business. How do we treat others? How do we react when someone is less than nice and polite to us?
Our work can be offered to God. I believe He has given us our work to, not only provide financially for us, but to also bless us and give us an outlet to use the gifts and talents He has given us.
We can offer encouragement to those who need it. "Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, but a good word makes it glad." Proverbs 12:25 I come into contact with many people, and I can offer them a good word to lift them up and give them hope. I consider this a huge privilege and ministry. Does this take time? Absolutely, but it is definitely worth it.
Tithes and offerings are another thing I can give. The income I earn from my business can go back to fund some of God's work.
I think it is crucial that we know what God's Word has to say about running our businesses. When it is time to stand before God, and He is considering how we ran our business along with the rest of our lives, we want Him to say "well done, thou good and faithful servant." Matthew 25:23.
I think having a knowledge of how to serve and honor God with our businesses is the most important knowledge you need. More important than search engine optimization, how to make a sale or how to create a good website. Yes, those things are important, but if you do not have good Christian business ethics, those things are useless.
So, how can we know how to honor God with our business? Where can we learn these good Christian business ethics?
You could search the Bible for yourself, and that is always good! But, if you would like to have that part done for you so that you can get on to actually putting it into practice, I have good news! I have put together a simple 33-page eBook that outlines how we can run our business in a way that is pleasing to God.
