Christian Entrepreneurs, How Do You Conduct Business?

As Christian entrepreneurs, we have a privilege and responsibility to honor God with our business.  Our business cannot be separated out from the rest of our lives, so it should be a witness of God’s love as should everything else.

How can we practically do this?  Colossians 3:23 tells us “And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”  We have to work at our businesses wholeheartedly to please God and to do our work for Him.  Not to gain praise from others, but from Him.

How do you handle the rude remarks that are made to you?  Did you come back with another rude comment, or did you, with God’s grace, either ignore it or answer it with humility?  It may seem like a small thing, but no offense is too “small” to care about.

Philippians 2:3-4 says “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.  Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”  When we apply this verse to our business, to me, this means that we should not try to just make a sale, but we should look out for the good and interests of others.  Will our product meet the need or interest they have?  If not, tell them so.  I have had to tell people before that my Home Business Guide was not what they were looking for if they wanted a telecommuting job or if they lived in another country.  I couldn’t feel good about selling a product to someone if it was not going to help them.

Christian entrepreneurs should stand out from the crowd in the way they conduct themselves and their business.  Whether or not our business name implies we are a Christian, it doesn’t matter.  We know we are and God sees how we do business.  Let’s make Him smile down on us as we conduct our business in a way that pleases Him.

I believe, as Christian entrepreneurs, we should also give of our profits to the kingdom of God.    Whatever ministry God has put on your heart, use some of the income from your business to bless them.

“And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus.” Colossians 3:17.
