When you are looking for marketing insight, look no further than the kind of relationships you have developed with your market.

 

Think for a moment about when you need to make a purchase.  Who do you want to buy from?  A total stranger?  Someone you are mildly acquainted with?  Or is it someone whom you connect with on a regular basis, who has built up your trust in them by their honesty and helpful ideas?

 

I think we all know the answer to that question.  Marketing Insight tip: We want to do business with people we know, like and trust.  So how do you develop a relationship like that with your market?

 

First, you need to show them that you have THEIR best interests at heart, not your own.  If they feel you are just out to make a sale, they will be off and running from you.

 

You can do this by being completely honest with them.  If you don’t feel that your product is the best answer to their problem, tell them that.  If you know a better solution, even if it’s not yours, make a recommendation to that product.  They will love you for it!

 

Marketing Insight tip:  Do more than just promote your products to them.  Give them helpful information, tips and advice.  Do not always be promoting something when communicating with them.

 

Think about your own relationships.  How long would you stay in a relationship that was solely based on the other person asking you to do something?  You need time to talk and connect.  It is the same way with your market.  They want to know YOU as a person, not just as a salesperson.

 

You also want to communicate with them on a regular basis.   Again, relationships need time to be together and nurtured.  Send out regular emails with helpful information and resources and your market will begin to look out for your emails.

 

The best marketing insight is to build a RELATIONSHIP with your market.  Regular communication, caring about your market and giving them useful information will get you on your way.
