Looking for Secretarial Work from Home?

There are many people looking for secretarial work from home.  You have a few options in pursuing this type of work.

First, there is telecommuting.  This would be working for an employer from the comfort of your home.  For this, you need to find a particular position that you are interested in, apply for it, be interviewed, and get hired.  Be sure if you go this route to go with a legitimate resource of telecommuting job listings.  Check out www.realtelecommutingjobs.com for my recommendations. (that is also my website.)

The next option is to start your own business as a Virtual Assistant, Secretary, or Transcriptionist.  These businesses all have some common elements, but they vary in the duties you would be performing.

They all would require that you find your own clients.  They would all mean that you are running your own business, so you are the boss and you make the decisions.

A Virtual Assistant can include a list of varied duties - phone calls, appointment setting, typing, making travel arrangements, website design/maintenance, answering emails and so on.  What duties you perform will depend a great deal on what skills you have.  You don't want to offer website design as part of your service if you don't have any idea how to create a website..  That is the beauty of this business - you can put together a package of services that are unique to you and your skills/strengths.  That is what you will offer your clients.

A secretary would have many of the above duties, probably with the exclusion of website design/maintenance.  You may also be doing some other clerical/secretarial work that is exclusive to the type of client you are working for.

A transcriptionist is primarily a typist, transcribing audio/video recordings into typed text.  You would, most likely, not get involved with the other secretarial tasks mentioned.

Or, you can put together a package that offers a little bit of each, however, in your marketing, you will want to specialize in something.  That will set you apart and allow you to focus on clients who are looking specifically for what you offer.

Any of the above professions can make a great business option. Take an inventory of your particular skills and strengths, and make a list of what you can offer your clients.  Then decide how you will describe your business to perspective clients.
